SAMOA

LALOMANU on Upolu Island of SAMOA/SOUTH PACIFIC

Litia Sini Beach Resort

Our long planned mid winter break : 14 days Samoa!
Our aim was to rest - swim - read - snorkel - eat - drink and sleep a lot. We are back home now and we can honestly share that our mission has been accomplished!
The pictures below gives you an idea of where we were staying. They call these little cabins - fale.

our personal fale

some fauna - as on most pacific islands you'd see lots of dogs, chickens  and pigs roaming around in the streets - no pics of that this time (see Tonga/Eua) but here other creatures we've seen

Taken around 2 am with sleepy eyes - did not see at the time that the focus was off. Anyway a larger crab was having a ball in the bowl of water where we remove the sand of our feet before entering the fale.
the usual size crab we would find around us day and night

Bob the stray cat who has settled himself in the resort

the view from our deck
sunrise
happy hour
Samuel going out kayaking - I went the next day - no pictures of that event!
super clear water
getting our dinner - lots of choice - delicious food every meal time

Oh, sometimes we went for a walk....and
this is what we encountered going to the left leaving the resort

we are approaching the site where a major rock slip took place possibly during cyclone Gita in February this year.

huge rocks fell down and covered the road which blocked access to the village further down the road

for now the cars have to drive around the debris on a hastily cleared site riddled with deep potholes - not ideal but access is restored.
the remainder of the rocks attached to the hill wall looks precarious as if they could fall down any time soon

the rocks are picked up by the locals and used as building material

now we turn right....walking into a village called Vailoa

the main South Coast Road
Island Namua

fruits bats hanging on the branches of this tree
Islands Nu'utele and Nu'uala (smaller one behind the big one)
overcast but still 29 degrees C

these 3 boys were singing and dancing the Macarena as soon as they saw us approaching

deeper into the villages...

Vista's on our way to Apia

a part of Mount Savaai'i

We did not take pictures in Apia that day as it rained quite heavily but we will be back
this is not our last visit....

having a refreshing drink and lunch in the very hot and muggy capital Apia

Robert Louis Stevenson Museum

A famous Scottish author (e.g. Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde) has build a huge mansion in the 19th century and lived in it until his death only 4 years later
his death certificate
his mother's room

the museum displays how Stevenson and his family lived

the jungle garden close to the mansion

here is then the dramatic swimming hole with its precarious ladder

the restaurant

very cool indeed

Lotofaga hill taken on the way to the airport which was in the mid morning and is seldom the best time to take a picture like this but I had no choice there as we had to stick to the flight schedule (oh how dramatic)
